# What are the common applications of incremental linear encoders?

## Advantages and application of incremental encoders

Advantages of incremental encoders include long measuring lengths that are now possible with these encoders. Also, the low cost compared to an absolute measuring system. 

Incremental encoders are compatible with nearly all controllers.

Common applications are 

- Automated assembly and packaging
- Storage and retrieval systems
- Motion systems – speed control
