# What is the difference between UHF, HF and LF RFID?

## Ultra High Frequency (UHF), High Frequency (HF) and Low Frequency (LF)

RFID systems can be used in the ultra high frequency (UHF), high frequency (HF) and low frequency (LF) ranges. They generally consist of three components: a data carrier (for data storage), a read/write head or antenna (for data transmission), and a processing unit (for data communication).

UHF can communicate with data carriers and read multiple data carriers (multiple tags) at a distance of up to 6 m.

Based on its high speed, HF can track parts within a short distance of close to 400 mm. The data carrier has various properties (for example, suitable for high temperature, with large storage capacity and suitable for mounting on metal).

Data carriers in the low frequency range are very suitable for difficult environmental conditions, such as metal environments. They are therefore often used for tool recognition.
