Induction types, function, application for selection preparation
Balluff provides a wide range of inductive sensors in various designs for different applications: from standard sensors to sensors with increased switching distance, hygienic, high-pressure and Ex sensors, factor 1 or all-metal sensors.
Including 2-wire polarized and non-polarized sensors, 3-wire NPN/PNP, NO/NC inductive sensors, with sizes in the range of M5, M12, M16, M18,D3.0, D4.0, D6, 5, D7.9, D6.0, D10.0, D12.0, D80, square mmx40mm 40, 80 mmx80mm, and also with a working frequency from 10 hz to 50 Hz.
According to the application environment, these inductive sensors can be divided into 11 different categories:
1. Inductive standard sensors with preferred types:
Our standard inductive sensors are ideal for object detection in metal areas. They are short-circuit protected and operate without contact. Thus, making them wear-free and very resistant to dirt and contamination. The sensors are available in configurations from 3 mm Ø to 80 × 80 mm square dimensions.
The rugged and reliable inductive Global Sensors provide especially economical solutions. This sensor can also be delivered worldwide in a short amount of time even in large quantities.
2. Inductive 2-wire sensors:
Balluff provides 79 types of polarized and non-polarized inductive 2-wire sensors with a working range from 2mm to 15mm.
3. Pressure-rated inductive sensors:
Perfect for use in hydraulic cylinders and valves: Our pressure-rated inductive sensors withstand a pressure of up to 500 bar. They are, therefore, perfectly suited for position monitoring of your hydraulics, such as for end position verification of hydraulic cylinders or monitoring valve positions.
4. Hygienic inductive sensors:
Ideal for safe cleaning: Our hygienic sensors are extremely durable against abrasive and aggressive media. Their labeling is resistant to abrasion and chemicals. The luminous displays are protected against destruction and the housing construction is optimized for safe cleaning.5. Inductive Factor 1 sensors：
The inductive Factor 1 sensors from Balluff detect metals with high precision and are especially desirable where targets of different metals are used. They offer generous switching distances with no reduction factor and are immune to magnetic fields. Therefore, they are ideal for areas with strong electromagnetic fields - such as in welding environments. For these harsh environments there are also versions available with a coating that makes them extremely resistant to weld splatter.
6. Inductive full-metal sensors：
The resilient stainless steel BES inductive full-metal sensors have been specifically developed for applications in harsh environments. The housing and sensor front are manufactured from stainless steel. The robust active surface is resistant to impacts, mechanical stresses, and abrasive media.
7.Magnetic-field-resistant inductive sensors：
Magnetic-field-resistant inductive sensors are resistant to magnetic fields arising from electric welding currents of up to 25 kA. Therefore, they are ideal for use in areas with strong magnetic fields such as in welding and induction hardening installations. These sensors with their resilient ceramic coating, are fundamentally resistant to metal spatters, slag, and combustion residues. Their extreme robustness reduces maintenance costs, which increases system availability. This enables the highest precision work in every area of use.
8. Weld-immune inductive sensors：
Weld-immune inductive sensors are unaffected by electromagnetic fields up to 100 kA/m. Coated to resist deposits of welding residues.With an additional ceramic coating, these sensors are resistant to metal splatters, slag and combustion residues. They enable the highest precision work in every area of use.
9. Temperature-rated inductive sensors：
The ultra-high temperature-resistant inductive sensors can be used in temperature ranges up to 230 °C. Both the housing design and the cable design are optimized for higher temperatures, while the electronics are completely integrated. Some variants are also available as high pressure sensors, which makes using them even more flexible.
10. Inductive sensors for hazardous areas：
Balluff offers a wide range of wear-free inductive sensors that can cover all Ex zones.
Applications for these wear-free switches range from Zone 2/22, in which an explosive atmosphere rarely occurs (Category 3G/3D), to Zone 0/20, where the greatest explosion hazard is present.
Our extensive portfolio includes high pressure resistant sensors up to 500 bar as well as sensors with extended temperature range and in different designs. With suitable accessories, such as NAMUR isolating amplifiers or connecting cables, you have a wide range of solutions for your individual requirements.
11. Inductive ring and tube sensors：
Our inductive ring and tube sensors are highly reliable, making them ideal for detecting small parts with a high object speed of up to 20 m/s. The integrated pulse extension of up to 150 ms makes it possible for the switching signals to be utilized by control systems in a dependable manner.
The greatest benefit is the simple installation procedure. The sensors can be universally mounted, lined up, and stacked at a distance greater than 20 mm.
