Rigid plunger Telescoping plunger
The telescoping end of plunger can be compared to a car shock absorbers as only part of the motion is passed to the switching element.

By this technique is a soft actuate the switching element. The telescoping ends plunger may not be used for safety applications, as to be guaranteed by the telescopic spring force to a safe opening is insufficient (bonded contacts will not be opened).
Rigid Plunger:
Each movement of the plunger body is passed directly to the switching element. Plunger and switching pin form a unit. The spring pushes the plunger back to the starting position.
